Projects in the Holy Land

Launched in 2005, Magdala is a unique project in the Holy Land with a history spanning thousands of years. Initially launched as a project to build a retreat center at the shores of the Galilee the project took a providential turn when during pre-construction archaeological excavations archaeologists discovered a first century synagogue and town below the entire property. Known traditionally as the hometown of Mary Magdalene this ancient city came to life heaonce more after 2000 years of being lost below ground.
Today, Magdala, is composed of a first century archaeological park featuring one of the best preserved synagogues from that time period in the world, a 150 room guesthouse, Duc In Altum, restaurant and more. It´s original story and hospitality offered on site have made it one of the Holy Land´s must visit sites and has recently been ranked among the top 10 landmarks to visit in the Middle East by TripAdvisor.
We invite you to join us in our journey as we continue to uncover, develop, build, and share this jewel, a crossroads of Jewish and Christian history, with the world.

They were most recently reviewed in 2004 by Pope John Paul II in his apostolic letter of November 26th, 2004, in the form of a Motu Proprio.
